Monday 7 February 2011

ive had a break over xmas and have neglected my blog somewhat but filmimg day was good and i have got some really good footage.
Although i had a small workshop on how to use the camera there was a lot of trial and error.
there were some mishaps on filming day such as one of my actors getting stuck in the down my down stairs loo but apart from that everything was ok. i shall now upload all my footage and being to edit together my trailer .

Wednesday 15 December 2010

So today i have set my filming date, confirmed my actors and location and booked the camera equiptment:

filming date: 5th february

Actors:
Jodie Wells playing the lead role
Lauren Isbell and Rosie Brown playing the make over team.

Location: i will be using my house as it is quite and spacious enough for the camera equptment and it has all the appropriate props for my films such as dresses and clothes, bags, nail varnish, hair products and shoes: i shall take pictures of my sets when i set them up.

I have booked out the camera equptment for the whole day and hope to get my filming done in this day; i will produce a rough shooting schedule to help the day run smoother.

Anne Hathaway: Anne Hathaway's first major role came in the short-lived television series "Get Real" (1999). She gained widespread recognition for her roles in The Princess Diaries (2001) and its 2004 sequel as a young girl who discovers she's a member of royalty, opposite Julie Andrews and Heather Matarazzo. She also had a notable role in Nicholas Nickleby (2002) opposite Charlie Hunnam and Jamie Bell, and a starring role in Ella Enchanted (2004). A former top-ranking soprano in New York, Hathaway was reportedly a front-runner for the role of "Christine" in the 2004 The Phantom of the Opera (2004). However, due to scheduling conflicts with The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004), she couldn't take the role, which was later given to newcomer Emmy Rossum. Hathaway soon started to move away from family-friendly films. Following The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004), she appeared topless in the films Havoc (2005) opposite Josh Peck and Brokeback Mountain (2005) opposite Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal. Her desire to break out of her "Princess Diaries" image parallels that of her one-time co-star, Julie Andrews, who went topless in the film S.O.B. (1981) in order to break away from the image she created from her 1960s musicals. In interviews, Hathaway said that doing family-friendly films didn't mean she was similar to their characters or mean she objected to appearing nude in other films. Anne is one of my favourite actresses, for my projecting i am particularly looking at the role she played in the princess diaries films and the transformation/chick flick role these films had ... this can be compared to the role that Sandra Bullock played in Miss congeniality. Sandra Bullock: Sandra Bullock was born in a Virginia suburb of Washington, DC, to a German opera singer and a voice teacher. She grew up on the road with her parents and younger sister. She often performed in the children's chorus of whatever production her mother was in. That singing talent later came in handy for her role as an aspiring country singer in The Thing Called Love (1993). Her family moved back to the Washington area when she was a teenager. She later enrolled in East Carolina University in North Carolina, where she studied acting. Shortly afterward she moved to New York to pursue a career on the stage. This led to acting in television programs and then feature films. She gave memorable performances in Demolition Man (1993) and Wrestling Ernest Hemingway (1993), but did not achieve the stardom that seemed inevitable for her until her work in the smash hit Speed (1994/I). She now ranks as one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood.

after looking at both these trailer i have decided that i would like to make a trailer for a make over chick flick film!

I havn't blogged in a while but after deciding what genre i was going to base my trailer around im now looking at the promotional material surrounding the two films that help me confirm my decision: Miss congeniality and Princess diaries. Miss congeniality:

this is my favourite poster as its simple and effective, the plain colour scheme works well with the one bright colour in her dress and i like the way they have a plain back ground, i also like that there is no rating on the poster. I am hoping to create a poster similiar to this for my promotional package.

As you can see these are all different promotional materials for the same film; some are video and dvd covers and others are posters.

Princess Diaries.

again you can see that there is more than one element to the promotional package, i hope to create a poster that doesnt give to much of the story line away but enough to entince people to be interested.

Exploring romantic comedy more! this is one of my favourite genres and the one that i watch most often, it is not the only genre that i watch by far but is one of my favourites. Below i have put some of my favourite romantic comedy and romantic trailers:

The Proposal:

Love Actually:

The Holiday:

Love and Other Drugs:

All of these films have very strong female characters and or actresses and this is something i would like to consider for my trailer. as i mentioned earlier i think that it will be hard to create a good comedy elemement if i were to do a romantic comedy.
the two main female actresses in these trailers above are two of my favourites:
Anne Hathaway and Sandra Bullock.

Friday 1 October 2010

Today im kicking off my media coursework by deciding what genre i would like to base my project on. For my project i have to create a film poster, trailer and a film magazine cover.

First of all im going to look at trailers for a selection of genre's and then comapre them to decide which genre i would like to use in my project.

The genre's i want to research will be:

  • Horror

  • Action

  • Romanctic comedy

  • Comedy

  • Sci-fi

I will go in to 'youtube' and search: "[Genre] film trailer 2010" and click on the first relevent post.

The horror trailer i viewed was 'Frozen'

The action trailer i viewed was 'Salt'

The romanctic comedy trailer i viewed was 'Going the distance'

The comedy trailer i viewed was 'Death at a funeral'

The Sci-Fi trailer i viewed was 'Repo Men'

after looking at all of these i have decided that i definately dont want to do horror; i studied horror last year in film studies and i would like to look at something different. I dont think i would be able to do a comedy as it's hard to achieve something that is genuinly funny.
Sci- fi often relies on large budget Computer Generated Imagery and intracte sets for a real wow factor and so i dont think that it would be achievable with my constraints. I also think action is the genre that i know the least and so i will not be looking further into this for my project.
that leaves me with romantic comedy !.
